Banned Team Names

Looks like I wouldn't be able to have a ladies team in the APA.

Check out this list of banned team names!

http://www.poolplayers.com/team-names-notallowed.html

They would never allow We've Got the Runs, or What The Heck, or No Holes Barred, or How's My Rack?  (my last 4 ladies team names).  WOW!

Some, I don't even understand why they are on the list!  smh...

Hmmm, so as I see it, in order to play in the APA, you can't use any of the following words (or their derivatives) in a team name:
Ball, Bust, Butt, Cue, Eight?!, Felt, Pocket, Rack, Rock, Sandbag, Shark, Shoot, Stick, Stroke, Tight, or Wood.

I didn't see "shaft" on the list, but I bet they would have a problem with that as well. I don't know about you, but I am finding it rather difficult to come up with a pool-related team name without any of those words.

I thought the APA was supposed to be the "fun" league. Though with all the accusations of sandbagging going on, it's hard to believe anyone associated with the APA could talk about the "integrity" of the league with a straight face.

Here in SF, we have APA teams named such things as...

The Money Shot
Felt Up
Just The Tip
Boobie Trap
Barely Legals
2 Racks

I've heard that if any team with a questionable name makes it to nationals, then they'd probably have to rename themselves to comply with the rules you linked to. So, I'd check your local league area to see how prudish they are.

From a business perspective this makes perfect sense. You don't want to have to issue a press release that the top amateur team in the country is "We've got smooth, shiny ballz."

From a personal perspective it's a non-issue. A team by any other name blah blah blah.

When our team captain first took over our team, we needed to change the name. His initials area D.D. and we have always called him Double D. When we were deciding the team name, someone suggested "Double D's" and it was voted on to be the new team name.

When we made it to Vegas last year, the APA made us change our team name. When I got there and saw some of the names they had allowed, I was quite annoyed. Many of the names allowed seemed to contradict their own rules.

Oh well. We changed our name temporarily for the nationals to "Twist of Fate" since we went to cities as a wild card and won. We made it to the middle of the week before getting knocked out of the tourney.
