New League

I had my first night of my new league last night. I admit, I was dreading it. I really don't like league. I only do it to qualify for Vegas. While it is totally worth BCAPL, in the meantime I struggle with the effort to go to the evening sessions. It's a chore. I don't normally talk negatively about things, so I apologize.

To top it off, I only had three hours of sleep the night before AND my arm was still hurting. So, ugh.

However, last night was a complete surprise!

Even though I got lost on the way there (I hadn't been to that pool room before), it turns out it's only 25 minutes from my house! Woo-Woo! I can't even begin to explain how ecstatic I am about that! I drove to Dallas for three years, an HOUR each way on evenings for league there. I wouldn't get home until midnight or later and because I work day shifts, it was pretty tough on me. While I really enjoyed seeing my friends, it was still brutal on me physically (yea, I'm a wimp). But this league pool room is so much closer! I was home before 11pm! And, it's not a traveling league - ahhh.... the good things in life!

To add to my excitement, the dues due (lol) were only $6. SIX DOLLARS? I haven't paid less than $15 in like 5 years! OMG!

Then I found out even with my achy arm I was still able to play fairly decently. :) Our team won and I met some new peeps and saw some old friends.

Oh... what a bonus league night turned out to be. :) I really like this league!

It was also the first night our Vegas BCAPL Team was all together and it was cool to see how our chemistry would be. Seems it's gonna be great! We are all alike - don't smile naturally (but don't let that fool you - we are having fun!), love pool, play good, want to win, and want to have fun.

Arm Update

After my run-in with the kitchen cabinets and wet floor, my arm still hurt bad enough that I forged many calls yesterday to go try and see a doctor. Well, that and my fellow blogger friends like poolriah , Samm and John, and some close friends were urging me to go get it checked out (thank you to my friends and Mom for pushing me!). It surprises me how concerned I was over it last week and now that it doesn't feel as bad, I hide from the doctor. Typical, I guess.

Trying to make an appointment was in itself a nightmare. I couldn't get in to see my doctor b/c they *thought* I hadn't seen him in 2 years so now I was considered a new patient. There wasn't an opening for a new patient until until Feb 16th. FEB?! What if I had the flu? Or needed some sort of life saving shot? Or something? FEB??!! They transferred me to an orthopedic surgeon b/c they thought maybe I could get in sooner. I could! Jan 13th! Yay. WTH-ever.

I called back to my doc's office b/c I knew in my gut I had seen him at least once in the last two years. I remember going right after my Dad passed. Well, evidently I was talking to a "new girl" earlier in the day and she didn't check my records "right" and yes indeed I was NOT a new patient and therefore could be seen earlier. UGh. But, thank goodness!

"How about tomorrow at 930am?" the dear angel asks me.

I almost fell out of my chair at work. "Yes, yes!"

I'm back from the doc now, as I write this. He made me do some weird movements with my arm; asked me some questions; listened to my heart (wait, is that for arm problems?).

He says I don't have a rotator cuff issue and thinks I just tore my muscle or tendon. Told me to not lift heavy things (no worries there); told me to rest it (no worries there); called me in a prescription because of the pain (an anti-inflammatory); and told me to come back to see him if it doesn't feel better in a couple of weeks. He thinks it just needs to heal and I should be fine!

He says my pool career is not over. Whew! What a guy. Turns out we graduated from the same college, the same year. Go figure.

So, that is my arm update. I will rest it and not worry as much now.

Thank goodness I am right handed because it's my left arm that is hurt. It'd be a lot tougher to rest it if it was my right arm that I hurt. Of course, that's why I am so worried - b/c I shoot left handed.

Thank you for all the concerns!

Fuzzy Math

Now that's it's December 1st, I can continue with my posts. I noticed I posted a lot in November. Eeek - didn't want to overload (even though I have no idea how many peeps really read this, lol).

So, as I entered the Season Finale of the OB Cues Ladies Tour stop, I wanted so badly to do well enough to stay in the top ten of the rankings.

As I mentioned in a previous blog, everyone thinks I want to remain in the top ten so that I can be invited to the Regional Tour Championships that the WPBA holds for the regional tours. However, I do not really care about that. I want to stay in the top ten for pride. In the last 8 years, I have been in the top ten of the rankings of the OB Cues Ladies Tour 7 out of those 8 years. I think that's impressive! Last year I placed 5th in the rankings AND was awarded Most Improved Player - therefore, I didn't want to fall out the top ten the very next year! That'd be crazy, huh?I did miss one stop and so I shouldn't have put so much pressure on myself, but I did anyway and checked out the rankings before I went to the final stop of 2009. I knew was barely in the top ten going into the tournament and noticed that fellow players Julie and Michelle were just below me in the points. But I also noticed if they did a lot better than I in the final tournament, they would pass my a$$ up. And they both play very well, so I knew it was a possiblity, I just needed to also place well.

Sure enough, I placed only 33rd (read the pathetic recap here, lol) - worse standing all year on this the tour for me... and after I lost my third match on Saturday, I was sick. S I C K. I blew it. I knew I blew it. :( I immediately ordered a pizza. Ate that. Went to my room. Dropped off the cue. Walked back to the pool room. Ordered a Smirnoff Ice. I was done. I blew it.

I kept watch (of course) of Michelle and Julie and knew they were still in the tournament most of Saturday. Then I saw Michelle get 9th place on Saturday night and Julie won her match so she was in until Sunday. Ugh. So, I am walking around, kind of numb. Nothing I could do about it, but still, I was disappointed. They both had a great tournament, I did not, and I was knocked out of the top ten.

After a night of toasting Lisa's Birthday (see above), I woke up Sunday morning with thoughts of the tourney on my mind. As I reflected, it donned on me that maybe, just maybe my math was off. Michelle only got 50 points for 9th place, I should have got possibly 20 points for my measly 33rd place. If I was right, then that meant, I was # 10! That's "top ten" right?

I couldn't wait to check the charts at the pool room to see if I had the right points for the right place and sure enough, my fuzzy math was fuzzy and then I figured out all on my own that I would be #10 Baby!

Wait, it gets better.

So the week after the tournament, the rankings are posted and I go check them out and my math is stupid fuzzy evidently! I am officially ranked 9th for the year! Somehow I completely miscalculated the points and math and the rankings and how Michelle and Julie did and now I am officially, officially in the top ten again! :) OMG!
